The last week of May pupils and teachers from England and France visited our school in Satila.
First there was a ceremony in the assembling hall and after lunch there was a game between hosts and guests.

Thanks so much to the Swedish teachers, students and families who hosted us during the week of May 26 to 30. It was a very good experience for all of us and already some are making plans to be back! Tak!
We have all got back home safely. Tired but really happy that we came. will post some of our pictures soon.

Mars in Gemini constellation and Saturn in Leonis constellation

On Saturday the 10th of May, before 2 p.m. , I was ready.
But there were too many clouds in Brive and it was impossible to see the Moon.
So, I have got no picture.
Sorry.

On Saturday the 10th of May, Mars will be behind the Moon.
This phenomenon is visible from France.
Unfortunatly I think it will not be visible from Birmingham and I am sure it will not be visible from Sätila.
In Uzerche it will begin at 12 h 00 UT (14 h 00 on the watch) and finish at 13 h 05 UT (15 h 05 on the watch).
If someone in Uzerche is able to get pictures, we'll put them on this blog.
But it is not sure at all we'll be able.
For French people, here are some indications in French (sorry : it is easier for me and for them !!).

Ce samedi 10 mai :
avant  14 h 00  à la montre, chercher Mars au télescope (ou avec de bonnes jumelles ?) légèrement au-dessus
du milieu du bord extérieur de la partie non éclairée du disque de la Lune ("à gauche").
A partir de  15 h 05  à la montre, chercher Mars légèrement au-dessus du milieu du bord extérieur de la partie éclairée du disque ("à droite").
Dans les deux cas commencer la recherche avant les horaires indiqués.
Ces horaires sont corrects à 1 minute près.
L'immersion (début du phénomène) devrait être plus facile à repérer que l'émersion (fin du phénomène) :
il est en effet plus facile de voir disparaître Mars (il suffit de la repérer auparavant),
que de la voir apparaître (il faudrait prévoir où elle va apparaître).
Par ailleurs, lors de l'émersion, Mars sera noyée dans la lueur de la partie éclairée de la Lune.
Entre  14 h 00  et  15 h 05 , il n'y aura rien à voir, en dehors de la Lune elle-même.
Dans tous les cas, le phénomène devrait ne pas être très spectaculaire et il sera probablement difficile de le voir.
Mais sait-on jamais.
