On Friday the 10th of October, we received in our school the astrophysicist Sylvie Vauclair. All the pupils of 8th and 9th grades attended her conference " In search of new worlds : les new planetary systems ", that was divided in 4 parts :
1) the Earth in the space,
2) the new solar system,
3) the search for exoplanets (planets outside the solar system),
4) the notion of " livable planet ".


Then she answered questions from pupils who studied in the french lessons her book "The song of the sun".

After a meal in the school canteen, she visited different workshops realized by our pupils.

The pictures have been taken by a Canon EOS 300D digital camera on a tripod, with a remote control and a
telephoto lens (focal length = 300 or 900).
Aperture = 5,6 ; ISO = 400.

In Brive, where I am living, the observation of the partial Sun eclipse was a failure once more.
The reason was : too many clouds.
The Sun was visible for only a quarter of an hour, just before the beginning of the eclipse.
Did someone else succeed in this observation ?
