A partial Moon eclipse will occur on next Saturday August 16th 2008.

Beginning : 19 h 36 min (UT) ; the Moon begins to enter the shadow of the Earth.

Maximum : 21 h 10 min (UT) ; 81 %.

End : 22 h 44 min (UT) ; the Moon is out of the shadow.

I think that the beginning of the eclipse will not be visible from Sätila, maybe nor from Birmingham.

That doesn’t matter :

If possible, French, English and Swedish pupils and teachers could
try to take pictures, and to magnify them as much as possible, with
several exposure times.

So you could use them in order to do the work that French pupils presented in Sätilaskolan on Wednesday the 28th of May 2008 :

“how to estimate the true diameter of the Moon and the true distance between the Moon and the Earth”.

NB : remember that a lot of contrast is required on the pictures, for that work.

Next Sun Eclipse (times in UT)
In order to get legal time, add 1 h in United Kingdom, 2 h in France or Sweden.

In Limoges (France) :
beginning : 08 h 55 ;
maximum : 09 h 18 (4,5 %) ;
end : 09 h 42.

in Birmingham (United Kingdom) :
beginning : 08 h 30 ;
maximum : 09 h 16 (24,6 %) ;
end : 10 h 05.

in Göteborg (Sweden) :
beginning : 08 h 36 ;
maximum : 09 h 35 (44,1 %) ;
end : 10 h 36.

Be cautious : never look at the Sun without the good protection.
You can use :
* a solarscope ;
* a telescope with an Astrosolar filter on the opening ;
* a projection on a screen.

The last week of May pupils and teachers from England and France visited our school in Satila.
First there was a ceremony in the assembling hall and after lunch there was a game between hosts and guests.
