07 Feb 2008

I took this photo on 7th of February at 7.15 am in the first morning lights. A few days before, Venus and Jupiter were much closer, but it was too cloudy to see anything.

With the telescope, it's possible to see the satellits of Jupiter : Io, Europe, Ganymed and Callisto.

I took those 3 pictures of Moon, Mars and Saturn with :

- a telescope Seben 70/700 : diameter = 70 mm / focal length = 700 mm / lens = 20.

- a digital camera Acer cl-6330, 6 Mb, shutter speed = 1/6th sec.

It's not yet really good... I hope I'll do better in the following weeks...

Marc

At Smith's Wood sports college, as part of our Comenius activities, we have been exploring concepts such as where we are, how do we know, how can we give directions to other places etc. We also experimented with making tools like angle finders etc.  The origins of words such as Astronomy, Constellations and so on were explored.
We are really enjoying the sessions as our instructor is lively and knows just how to explain difficult concepts!

Sadly, due to the timing of the eclipse many students will not be able to witness it but we hope to see some of the beautiful pictures by those who will see it.

We will endeavour to keep you informed of our progress.

On the 21st of February 2008, there is a Moon eclipse :
* half light : 00 h 35 to 06 h 17 (UT) ;
* shadow : 01 h 43 to 05 h 09 (UT) ;
* total eclipse : 03 h 00 to 03 h 51 (UT).

Caution :
* hours are indicated in universal time (UT) ;
* legal time = UT in United Kingdom ;
* legal time = UT + 1h in France and Sweden.

Let us enjoy this event and take beautiful pictures.
