Concerning food, rotary machines will be installed under the solar panels to cultivate vegetables ans cereals.

Some exceptional round-trip will be done between Mars and the Earth.

Chikens are very workable because they don't take space and we can take a lot of them at each trip.

Chikens will eat the cereals (made in rotary machines) so we will have meat and egs.

Cities will be under the bubble, so temperature will be around 20°c. Inhabitants of Mars won't need many clothes. Raw materials will be natural, like cotton, and recycled, for example : plastic bottles. From these raw materials, wa could make other materials as nylon, jean, etc. To go outside people will have the same shoes, for exemple : nice boots.

In houses, they will have slippers or shoes, they will choose.
On Mars, means of transport like cars or motos won't be used. The people of Mars will use elevators wich move horizontally and vertically for move like we want.

The planet is separate in 3 parts, undergrounds will enable to join towns together.

For the good functioning of the planet we need energy :

- Solar energy : solar panels will be installed on all the inhabited parts of the planet.

- Wind power: there are sometimes tempest, so there is wind on Mars. We put wind machines on the inhabited part.

-magma energy: We can use the heat of the magma to warm the water and sometimes to heat up the bubble.
Mars will have big areas under bubble, connected between them by 3 subways (underground).

The cities will be built on vertically whit lifts to move vertically and whidth wise. There could only be few thousands people by areas.

Each house will be in its caves, heated by electricity and running water (and heat). Phones will be replaced by large pipes in which we will slip messages.

In each areas, there will be one factory for food , one for the textile in dustry ans one for the waste recycling and a funeral home.

The school will be compulsory on Mars until the age of 25. Pulpils will have French lessons and Mathematics lessons in the morning ; and they will have the choice of the lessons for the afternoon according to the possible aptions : ( arts: sculpture, drawing, painting...sports : dancing, pe, football... experiments : physics, chemistry, sciences...).

Leisures: playing clubs (like marsnis and marsket).
Life on Mars. Part 1 : conditions for a human life.

Scientists suspect that years ago, life would have appeared on Mars surface. Indeed, fossils would have been found.

But today, Mars is a planet twice smaller tahn Earth, whit a diameter of « 6,794 km ». It's atmosphere is very thin. Like Earth, it turns on it self in a day. It has also four well defined seasons. Gravity is 3,72 m/s².

We find on Mars just carbonic gas, without any oxygen traces ( more than 95% Co²). The temperature is less than 50° F because of the greenhouse effect and because it's further than Earth from de sun. Its sky is yellow-brown.

There are a lot of wind whit storms and fog. Mars is a rocky planet where we can find extinct volcanos and mountains (like Mount Olympus height « 25km ») The irruptions of the last years dug caves underground. We can find-less than one meter of the ground water in the form of ice...

Like Earth, Mars has got two poles covered whit ice, which regress in summer and are reinforced in winter. But Mars, before all, is a desert planet : her surface, equal to all terrestrail continents, is only an immense expance of stand and rocks
On Friday the 10th of October, we received in our school the astrophysicist Sylvie Vauclair. All the pupils of 8th and 9th grades attended her conference " In search of new worlds : les new planetary systems ", that was divided in 4 parts :

1) the Earth in the space,

2) the new solar system,

3) the search for exoplanets (planets outside the solar system),

4) the notion of " livable planet ".

Then she answered questions from pupils who studied in the french lessons her book "The song of the sun".

After a meal in the school canteen, she visited different workshops realized by our pupils.

PARTIAL MOON ECLIPSE (August 16th 2008)

The pictures have been taken by a Canon EOS 300D digital camera on a tripod, with a remote control and a

telephoto lens (focal length = 300 or 900).

Aperture = 5,6 ; ISO = 400.

The Moon entered the Earth shadow at 19 h 36 UT and was out of the shadow at 22 h 44 UT.

The maximum occurred at 21 h 10 UT.

(for legal time, add 2 h in France and Sweden, 1 h in United Kingdom).

I observed the phenomenon on a plateau, 30 km Eastward from Brive,

with the chairman of "Association Astronomique du Limousin".

Clouds did not allow us to see the eclipse before 21 h 15 UT.

After that, it was rather beautiful.

20 h 59 UT (exposure = 0,5 s ; focal length = 300).

11 min before the maximum.

There are some clouds in the sky around the Moon.

You can see a red colour on the non-enlightened part of the Moon

(the red part of the sunlight is deflected by the Earth atmosphere and the blue part is absorbed).

From the non-enlightened part of the Moon, you could see a total Sun eclipse,

with the Earth in front of the Sun.

21 h 09 UT (exposure = 0,4 s ; focal length = 900).

1 min before the maximum.

This picture can be used in order to estimate the true diameter of the Moon.

22 h 27 UT (exposure = 1/320 s ; focal length = 900).

17 min before the Moon is out of the shadow.

With this short exposure, we can see details on the enlightened part

but not on the non-enlightened one.

22 h 50 UT (exposure = 1/500 s ; focal length = 900).

The Moon is entirely out of the shadow.

But you can see a progressive half-light on the right-bottom part of the Moon.

From this area on the Moon, you could see a partial Sun eclipse.

The Moon was entirely out of the half light after 23 h 52 UT.

NB : these pictures are reduced for the blog.

If you wish the original pictures, you can ask me (360 kB to 550 kB for each picture).

Michel Wavresky (Uzerche).

michel.wavresky@wanadoo.fr

SUN ECLIPSE (1st of August 2008)

In Brive, where I am living, the observation of the partial Sun eclipse was a failure once more.

The reason was : too many clouds.

The Sun was visible for only a quarter of an hour, just before the beginning of the eclipse.

Did someone else succeed in this observation ?

MW (Collège Gaucelm Faidit, 19140 Uzerche) , 1st of August 2008.
